Children's Treatment Program

HomeChildren and YouthChildren's Treatment Program

Catholic Community Services has been providing counseling and mental health services to children of all ages throughout the Seattle-King County area for more than 20 years through its Children’s Treatment Program (CTP). The program provides treatment services in a number of public and private schools, as well as in our Seattle and Kent offices. The program serves ethnically diverse children and families. The program also serves parents and/or caregivers who also have a child in our care. All treatment staff have qualifying masters degrees and a number of years experience providing mental health services. Staff are licensed by the State of Washington and work with a board certified child psychiatrist.

Children served include those impacted by organic-based illness and those who are experiencing a behavioral/emotional reaction to life events. Issues presented include: attachment disorders, experience of significant or traumatic loss, physical or sexual victimization, witness of violent assault/murder and anxiety, mood and eating disorders. Children served include those who have attempted or threatened suicide, self harm and/or violence toward others.

Catholic Community Services’ service philosophy articulates a set of principles that recognizes and builds on the strengths, values, beliefs, culture and voice of the client and their family. Staff understand that mental illness means different things in different clients’ lives. For some, it is a permanent, lifelong condition that they must learn to manage and regulate if they are to function in society. For others, mental illness can be a transitory situation that can be resolved. And, for still others, mental illness may mean periodic episodes or disabling affliction. The role of the therapist is to work with the client and their family and support system to assist the client in understanding the role of mental illness in their life, to teach them new skills to mitigate the impact of mental illness on their life and to direct treatment to facilitate maximum functioning and participation in society.

CTP is licensed by the State of Washington and has a contract with King County, which enables the program to provide services at no cost to low-income families. Our services were audited by the State Division of Mental Health in late August 2008. Clinical service auditors remarked that our services set the “gold standard” for mental health services for children and asked if they could refer other community agencies to Catholic Community Services for consultation and technical assistance.
