Catholic Housing Services
Providing Homes, Hope and Healing
to People in Need
Dale didn’t own much more than the clothes on his body, although he did have a tent that he could return to each night. He relied on his tent to shelter him from the elements while he waited for a unit to open up at Catholic Housing Services’ (CHS) Monte Cristo. But one day last week he discovered someone had taken his tent, forcing him to seek shelter under a bridge during two days of torrential rain. Soaked to the bone and so sick with fever and chills that he couldn’t even stand, Dale thought he was going to die.
He didn’t know that CHS staff were looking for him because they had an apartment ready for him. They spent days searching the local neighborhood, enlisting the help of others who were also concerned for Dale’s safety. When Dale finally reached them, he was surprised to learn that so many people had been looking for him. CHS gave him the keys to his new apartment and he moved in that very day, grateful for a new home, renewed hope and a fresh start.
CHS Monte Cristo offers 69 units of affordable housing for low-income households and for adults who are chronically homeless. With your support, CHS was able to help over 5,900 people in need into permanent housing last year. Learn more about Catholic Housing Services of Western Washington.
