CCS/AHA: We Believe

Nativity House Joins Catholic Community Services to
Create Better Services and New Opportunities for
    Homeless People

Denny Hunthausen, Vice President and Agency Director for CCS SW announced that as of
July 1, the Nativity House Shelter became a program of Catholic Community Services.

As a result of this merger, Nick Leider, who has served as Nativity House’s Executive Director,
will join Jim Anderson in leading a newly formed division of homeless adult services that
includes the Hospitality Kitchen, Nativity House and the Tacoma Avenue Shelter.  In addition,
Cindy McNabb, who has served as Deputy Director with Nativity House, joins CCS as
Development Manager for homeless adult services and coordinator of the CCS SW Family
Center development staff.  Along with Nick and Cindy, twelve additional Nativity House Staff
     were welcomed to CCS SW.

Nativity House     Hunthausen stated, “Joining forces
means we can support one another and
a common mission and vision: serving
the poor – the homeless, the addicted,
the mentally ill, the most vulnerable,
the hardest to serve – in the most
     compassionate, effectual, and respectful
manner possible. As a result of this
     change, every dollar benefactors choose
to invest in our work going forward will be
utilized more efficiently and effectively to
care for the people we serve—and move
us closer to ending homelessness for an
     increasing number of people.”

Nativity House was started over 30 years ago by two Jesuit Priests in Tacoma to provide a
place of welcome and support for homeless people and those living on the streets.  Nativity
House has been Tacoma's only daytime drop-in shelter for the homeless; offering a refuge from
the dangers of the streets to all who come to their doors. Whether guests need a meal,
clothing, referrals to social services, or just a smile, the staff at Nativity House is there to
     provide it.
