Volunteer Chore Services (VCS) is committed to helping elders and adults with disabilities remain independent in their own homes through a network of caring community members. VCS collaborates with faith-based congregations, civic groups, schools and community businesses to provide services. The services are provided at no charge and serve as a safety net for those individuals who cannot afford to pay for assistance and do not qualify for paid chore assistance. Some of the services volunteers can provide include: light housekeeping, laundry, shopping assistance, transportation, cooking, minor home repair, respite, and yard work. Volunteers generally provide 2-8 hours per month assisting their neighbors depending on their schedules and availability.

Volunteer!
Be a volunteer to an elder or an adult with a disability in your neighborhood! Volunteers choose which tasks they wish to help with. Many people in our community need help with shopping, light housekeeping, laundry, cooking, and yard work in order to continue living independently. Most volunteers give an hour or two a week or twice a month. There are also on-call opportunities for those whose schedules don't permit a regular commitment. Your assistance enables elders and adults with disabilities to remain independent in their own home. But the real benefits are the wonderful friendships that form!

Who volunteers?
Volunteers of every age and experience are matched individually or through groups to provide assistance to help people remain independent in their homes. Our volunteers lead full lives and enjoy the chance to connect with someone and help out in a meaningful way. Volunteers are matched individually and choose the day, time and location to volunteer throughout Western Washington. Most volunteer one or two hours per week or month in their own neighborhood or near their work. Since a volunteer helps the same person each week, lasting friendships often form. Volunteers receive training, mileage reimbursement and insurance to assist them in their volunteer commitment. Families and couples can volunteer together. Students and retirees also serve as volunteers. Youth under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
